DCF Mandated Reporting

Mandated reporters are required to report or cause a report to be made when, in the ordinary course of their employment or profession, they have reasonable cause to suspect or believe that a child under the age of 18 has been abused, neglected or is placed in imminent risk of serious harm. (Connecticut General Statutes §17a-101a)

DCF Careline

Reporters must report to the Department of Children and Families' (DCF) Careline within 12 hours of suspecting that a child has been abused or neglected and must submit a written report (DCF-136 form) to DCF within 48 hours of making the oral report. Click here for DCF-136 form (right click the link and choose "save link as" to download the form, then right click the form and open it with Adobe Reader to view it properly). 

Effective December 5, 2018, the Department of Children and Families (DCF) introduced electronic reporting that will be available to mandated reporters from school systems for non-emergent child abuse and neglect concerns.
