SOUTHWEST SCHOOL DRESS CODE/DISRUPTIVE ARTICLES

This Dress Code is outlined in the publication all students receive in the Southwest School Handbook given out on the first day of school.

Since we are a “Character Counts!” school, we hope the choice of dress, which you and your children make everyday, will be age appropriate and be reflective of the pillars of Good Citizenship and Respect.  No item of clothing should distract the child, their peers or adults from the purpose of school, which is learning.

Please note requirements are for health and safety reasons.  Parents must question the health and safety posed by inappropriate clothing.  Children may fall down stairs and cause injury to themselves and others by wearing heavy shoes and open-toed sandals.  Oversized clothing is hazardous and can lead to injury.  Sneakers must be worn for gym.

The following are NOT ALLOWED:

  • Clogs, flip-flops, heavy boots, sandals, high-platform shoes/sneakers or Heeleys
  • Wrestling shirts, muscle shirts, midriff pullovers, bare midriffs and off-shoulder clothing; any clothing with alcohol advertisement or obscene language
  • Low rise pants (must wear long tops)
  • High rise tops
  • Short shorts, or very short skirts
  • Oversized pants and shirts
  • Pants that are long enough to get caught under shoes
  • Gang bandanas and neck or other chains
  • Hats are NOT allowed to be worn in the building unless for religious reasons
  • Clothing with rivets
