 ART CURRICULUM AT A GLANCE

KINDERGARTEN

Kindergarten students will receive a balanced experience consisting of an introduction to various materials, art vocabulary and instruction in techniques. They will also be given the opportunity to explore, experiment, appreciate, and initiate works of art. In order to nourish creative growth, emphasis will be placed on process rather than product. All student works will be celebrated by teachers as well as students!

GRADES 1 - 5

During the years that follow Kindergarten, students will continue the process of creating art and also end up with some wonderfully crafted products. Through the use of elements and principles of design, students will experience techniques in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, fiber arts, crafts and technology. They will strengthen vital skills such as fine motor and social as well as develop hand-eye coordination, self awareness and self confidence. While developing a sense of aesthetics, the children will understand and appreciate art in history and increase art vocabulary.

GRADES IN ART

My grading system is grounded on the ability to follow directions and apply specific skills and techniques. Furthermore, a student in my art room should demonstrate consistent progress and appropriate behavior. I cannot grade a child based upon his or her artistic ability, as this varies with each individual.
