6th Grade World Language Information
May 11, 2007
Dear Grade Six Parents/Guardians:
As a seventh grader in August, your son or daughter will be enrolled in a world language course if s/he meet certain criteria. All children are being asked to select a world language now. We offer Spanish, French and Italian at Torrington Middle School. Any one of these may be selected as part of your child’s program of studies. If your child is eligible, we will make every effort to place him/her in the language of choice.
The Torrington Middle School World Language Program consists of a two-year study of a selected language: Level 1A in seventh grade and Level 1B in eighth grade. In order to be eligible for enrollment in the world language program, students must be successful in their current Language Arts class and achieve a level of mastery on the CMT. Their CMT scores and their Language Arts grades will determine their eligibility for this program. If they are not eligible for the world language program they will be placed in Language Arts 2 and continue to receive two periods of language arts in grade 7.
When making your selection, please be sure that your second choice is clearly indicated because numbers and schedules may prevent first choice. Indicate on the form below your child’s first and second world language selection, then sign and return the completed form to your child’s homeroom teacher no later than Friday, May 18, 2007. Failure to return selection form will result in placement by us. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me here at the school.
Sincerely,
Matthew J. Harnett

End of the year trips and activities
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we near the end of another school year there are many activities and trips that are being planned to celebrate the hard work and effort of the students and staff here at Torrington Middle School. The students because of their hard work, effort and attendance earn these events during the school year. If your child is failing is failing multiple classes or has accumulated more than sixteen discipline points or has missed more than thirty days of school they will not be able to attend any of these activities. This includes field trips, class trips, class night, dances, and any other planned activities.
If there are any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me here at the school.
Sincerely,
Matthew J. Harnett
