To participate in Interscholastic Athletics is a privilege extended to every student wishing to experience the physical, social, and emotional benefits of being part of a team. However, to be a Student-Athlete at Torrington High School, you should always set a good example for your fellow students, not only in the classroom and on the court or field, but away from school as well. You need to keep in mind you are in the public eye and your personal conduct always must be above reproach. You have an obligation to serve as a positive role model and to gain the respect of your teammates, student body, and the community. Keep in mind you continually serve as a reflection of your family, coach, team, school, and community.Your greatest challenge as a Student-Athlete will be to do what is right before your peers when you are away from the school scene. While in school, others are there to coach and counsel you; out-of-school you are your own coach and counselor. The true test of whether you qualify to be Torrington High School Student-Athlete will be whether you have the courage and self-discipline to say "No" when your friends are saying "Yes".While the High School Athletic Program serves as an arena for you to display your talents, you must in turn be willing to assume certain responsibilities, namely:Strive to achieve sound citizenship, emotional control, honesty, cooperation, dependability, and respect for others and their abilities.Maintain academic eligibility and training rule standards. Show respect for both authority and property. Learn to attain total well-being through positive life style habits. Learn the spirit of hard work, dedication, and commitment. Desire to excel.
Thank you for your interest, enthusiasm, dedication and commitment toward continuing the tradition and pride of the Torrington High School Interscholastic Athletic Program. We encourage any student-athlete or parent to contact Newell Porch, Athletic Director at (860) 489-2285.All students must have a current physical to participate in sports.
