The Southwest School is the smallest elementary school in the Torrington School District. However, it is housed in one of the newest buildings, renovated in 2001. The school is a combination of architectural elegance from the early 1900s and modern, state of the art additions.

Southwest school has a warm, family atmosphere that is supported by the staff, students and their families. Over the years, teachers as well as the administration have focused their goals on improving parental involvement in school. We want parents involved in their student's education.
We have developed all of our school rules around the six pillars of good character. The overall atmosphere of the school has improved greatly since beginning this program. We do not teach about character as a separate unit, but rather we integrate it into everything we do.
Southwest School is a Team
Inclusion at Southwest School means that every child benefits from all teachers (special education, speech, classroom, Art, Music, and Physical Education) collaborating and co-teaching much of their instruction. This benefits all children because lessons are planned in regards to the individual needs and learning styles of all of our students. This approach makes use of everyone's expertise and allows every child the opportunity to be successful.
The faculty and staff of Southwest School have shown exemplary commitment to extending their knowledge and upgrading their skills as educational professionals. We seek to set high standards for our students and to maintain excellence in programming in meeting student needs.
This Southwest Web Site is for our students and parents. If you have any suggestions or concerns please let us know.
