Working Papers

Working Papers (Certificate of Age – Form ED-301)

In Connecticut, anyone under the age of 18 must obtain Working Papers before beginning employment. This Certificate of Age (Form ED-301) ensures that minors are legally eligible to work in accordance with state labor laws.

At FAST Academy, students must appear in person to obtain Working Papers. This process takes place in the Student Support Center.

What to Bring:

  • An original Promise of Employment letter from your prospective employer

  • Proof of identification:

    • FAST Academy students may use school records along with their school ID.

Before You Come In: Review This Checklist

Make sure you meet the following requirements as outlined by the Connecticut Department of Labor:

  • Are you at least 16 years old (or 15 years old for retail jobs during school vacation weeks)?

  • Do you have a written Promise of Employment from your employer?

  • Do you have proof of age (birth certificate, baptismal certificate, or passport)?

  • Do you have your Social Security card?

  • Is the job permitted for your age under Connecticut law?

  • Is the industry permitted for your age under Connecticut law?

  • Are the hours and times of work legal for your age?

If you answered "yes" to all of the above, please bring your required documents to the School Counseling Office/Student Support Center at FAST Academy.

We recommend coming in during the morning to allow time for processing by the end of the day.
